B Corp Benefits for Your Business with IoD Scotland

Last week, Connect Three’s very own Chief Sustainability Officer, Mehalah Beckett, had the pleasure of presenting a webinar to the Institute of Directors in Scotland on “B Corp Benefits for Your Business.” The session explored the growing B Corp movement, a global phenomenon redefining business success by placing social and environmental impact alongside profit.

At Connect Three, we achieved our first BCorp accreditation with an overall B Impact Score of 83.6 in 2020. We are so proud of our accomplishment, but since then we’ve worked tirelessly to improve our results and as we’ve just submitted our latest reaccreditation bid, we’re hoping to achieve an even higher score this time round. You can find out more about our journey through our Impact Report.

Mehalah’s presentation offered a comprehensive overview of the B Corp system:

  • Understanding the Movement: B Corp represents a cultural shift, harnessing the power of businesses to tackle societal challenges and build a more inclusive economy.
  • Beyond Certification: While the B Corp certification process provides a rigorous framework, the true value lies in the open-source best practices it offers. This framework is freely available, designed to equip businesses with actionable steps towards becoming more sustainable, regardless of their current certification goals.
  • Building a Better Business: The presentation explored the numerous business benefits of aligning with B Corp principles, including attracting top talent, boosting customer loyalty, and driving innovation.
  • Charting Your Course: Mehalah also covered the certification process itself, including the latest draft standards, and provided clear next steps for companies interested in taking the first steps towards a more sustainable future.

A Framework for Everyone:

A key takeaway from the session was the universality of the B Corp framework. Even if B Corp certification isn’t your immediate goal, the B Impact Assessment tool offers invaluable guidance for any business seeking to improve their social and environmental impact. It’s a flexible starting point, meeting you wherever you are on your sustainability journey.

Mehalah remarked on the positive engagement during the webinar, reflecting the growing interest among Scottish businesses in aligning with a more sustainable future. Connect Three, a proud B Corp itself, is passionate about supporting other organisations on this journey. As Mehalah puts it, “We’re excited to continue these conversations and help more businesses in Scotland embrace the B Corp framework for a more sustainable and successful future.”
