Lanarkshire Women in Business - Case Study

Page-Divider-3

Connect Three delivered four successful women-led leadership programmes in Scotland in 2021 and 2022 before we partnered with North and South Lanarkshire Councils to deliver a Lanarkshire Women in Business (LWIB) programme aimed at boosting the number of women-led businesses in their local area.

LWIB offered fully funded workshops and 1-2-1 mentorship from some of Scotland's leading female business coaches to build confidence, skills and knowledge for women in business to Start Up or Step Up in their leadership roles.

The programme launched in December 2022 and was comprised of two programmes, Step Up and Start Up, both fully funded by North and South Lanarkshire councils and delivered by Connect Three.

Step Up

Step Up in leadership was a programmed designed to support women to succeed in leadership roles. Step Up worked to help women increase their confidence and interpersonal skills, and to step into a leadership role in their own business.

Start Up

Running in parallel was the Start Up programme, designed to support women to succeed in starting a new business.

Hybrid, with Networking & Mentorship

The workshops for the two programmes ran in parallel, with some in person and some online.  Throughout the programme we provided social elements where participants could interface with each other and share experiences.  These networking opportunities helped the women to understand the challenges that they face and have in common, and learn from each other's experiences.

For the programme we also recruited experienced business owners and leaders as mentors for the participants, working with them to help improve confidence and guide their development.

Why Lanarkshire for Women in Business?

Wilma McDaniel, programme mentor and founder of Lanarkshire-based business consultancy Rise Business Growth, said: “Many of us struggle to ask for help when we’re starting a new business, but schemes like this are designed to help us share knowledge, sharpen our skills and offer guidance that will allow us to all grow our businesses in the best way possible. When a group of driven women come together to support each other, amazing things happen."

Programme leader, Barbara Clark from Connect Three said: “Scotland’s community of female entrepreneurs is growing, and the scheme placed Lanarkshire right at the heart of it.  The programme was a great opportunity for women across the area to gain expert knowledge and advice from some of the country’s best business leaders."
