NHS 24
Who they are
NHS 24 is Scotland’s national digital health and care service, supporting people across Scotland to access the right care, advice and information.
The challenge
NHS 24 was moving through significant organisational and digital transformation. Its three-year Workforce Strategy placed effective leadership and management at the heart of that change, with leaders needing the confidence and capability to lead people, navigate complexity and support a more digitally enabled organisation.
NHS 24 wanted to strengthen leadership at scale, while building on existing development and creating an approach that felt relevant to the realities of a busy healthcare environment.
“During a period of significant organisational and digital transformation, Connect Three have been a trusted partner in the co-design and delivery of our middle and senior leadership development programmes, supporting over 260 leaders across NHS 24.”
The solution
Connect Three worked in partnership with NHS 24 to co-design and deliver development for middle and senior leaders, supporting more than 260 leaders across the organisation.
Rather than taking an off-the-shelf approach, we worked closely with NHS 24 to understand the skills, behaviours and challenges that mattered most.
The learning combined practical workshops, coaching, 360 feedback, workplace application and peer learning, covering areas including strategic thinking, communication, coaching, culture, change and resilience.
As NHS 24’s digital transformation developed, we also worked with the organisation to build digital leadership capability, helping leaders understand how to lead change, encourage innovation and turn digital strategy into day-to-day action.
The impact
The results showed clear development in both confidence and leadership capability.
195 leaders, 90% of those in scope, completed the relevant programme, with an overall effectiveness score of 91%.
Across the 30 leadership competencies measured, every competency improved, with the overall average increasing from 7.8 to 8.4 out of 10.
The biggest improvements included how well equipped participants felt as leaders, visionary and strategic thinking, agility and teaming.
Most importantly, 90% of attendees said they had applied the learning or skills in their day-to-day role, helping turn leadership development into real workplace change.
